Location: New York City | The pilot light on my '73 fmc won't activate to allow the furnace to start. Any advice? I have tried lighting it manually with no success. Also the manual shows a pilot gas turn-on switch which I can't locate. Any suggestions? |

Location: Ignacio Colorado | Does the heater fan come on? It has to spin fast enough to trip a switch that turns on the gas. If the battery is low it won’t trip the switch. I’ve read that well water won’t trigger the tank indicator. Chlorinated water does. Just in case you have well water.

Location: Oceanside, CA | like Bill said, if when you turn the thermostat up the fan motor doesn't come on then you'll never get the gas switch to turn on...mine doesn't have a "pilot light" it has an electric igniter but it was a replacement unit in the early 1990's. |

Location: Ignacio Colorado | When you turn the thermostat up above ambient temp the fan turns on. It has to blow enough air to trip the fuel cutoff and send gas to the burner. There is also an over temp gas cut out switch that might be bad but the fan would still blow.
This is how the factory heater in #902 works. No pilot light but an igniter and gas cut off switch.
