My drivers side windshield wiper occasionally quits. Switch it to high and will restart, sometimes jerky. Turn it off for a few minutes and it is OK for a while. The wiring seems to be fine. Any suggestions? Rebuild, replace? Doesn't look like a fun job.  Using RainX so nothing serious has happened.  Denny

Personally, I just strap a good strong Southerner to my front bumper and yell at him "Wipe!"

The wiper motor has 3 terminals, 2 if it is frame grounded. One terminal is an ON from the dash switch and the other is an ON constantly. This constant ON terminal is opened by the wiper itself when it returns to the "home" position. Intermittent switches are the most frustrating to trace. When it goes "Dead" does it stop in the middle of the windshield or does it "home"?

Pull the wires at the motor, take a hot wire and test it directly on the motor terminals. If you can duplicate the problem, then the motor is at fault. The motors and their switching are not terrible. Sit down at a work bench with it and disassemble. Just keep track of where everything goes. Usually a little re-greasing and some cleanup will bring many back to life. They are pretty simple and well built. If you muck it up, they aren't expensive.

If you can't duplicate the problem, it's probably at the dash switch.

If you can't find a good Georgia boy to ride your front bumper, I hear some of the retirees in Florida are looking for work.

When the wiper starts to act up, it will be jerky and then finally stop somewhere on it's travel (not home). I am going to take Bill's suggestion and swap the two switches and test it. Lou suggested a screen door roller (which I picked up at ACE Hardware) to replace the wiper blade for testing. I know the ground is good, just need to spend some time with it. Thanks, Denny
