I just checked the Service Manual, Group/Section 17 and the torque specification for the drive shaft U-joint bolts is for 25-30 ft lbs of torque.  That is somewhere between finger tight and I guess I need a cheater bar to get this thing undone.

As most of you know, I am in the midst of a diesel conversion for #1046 (see other thread).  As part of that process, I needed to disconnect the driveshaft.  In the course of doing that, I discovered both of the conditions just described above.

So my recommendation to everyone is to check the tightness of the bolts that hold the U-joints in the driveshaft.  They take a 9/16 box end wrench and should be the above torque or snug, but not either finger tight or so tight you can't get them off.  The torque specification is the same for all three propeller shafts.
