Location: Cupertino, CA | 968 dropped an engine today. Threw some metalic object like a crank shaft or tie rod end through the oil pan. Lost oil pressure just before it happened and before I could find a place to safely pull off the freeway. :-(
Since I am in love with her, I would like to put a quality engine in it. Don't think I want the expense of converting to diesel. It is at a repair facility now that I will probably have do the repair work. I said I would post on the bulletin board to see if there were any new/used engines that have been pulled and are for sale. They will check tomorrow (Nov 1) to see what they can locate and price.
So if you have suggestions of one in the California/San Jose area. Please respond quickly! I want to use the coach on the West Coast Rally next week!
Thanks guys,

Location: Cottage Grove, OR | Larry, I can sympathize as I have: Blown a head gasket with colateral damage that required a rebuild (of the rebuild), then blew that rebuild and put in a replacement engine. As you know, I am converting to diesel and my engine became available, but has already been shipped to Hanford and put into a different FMC that blew its engine last August.
I have a thought and will do a little research. | |

Location: Cupertino, CA | Thanks, Stephen. I knew you had disposed of the power train and parts.
I sent you a separate email as well. I have seen suggestions that the Dodge 413 runs cooler and produces nearly the same power, or conversion of a 440 to 413 heads will accomplish the same.
Can it handle the constant load on the engine? The 440 Marine was supposedly chosen for the load factor, but seems to give out often enough that the basis is questionable, add to that the run hot factor and it seems to have disaster built into it.
I think I could live with less power as I have only been driving at 55MPH anyhow!
The repair shop is going to pull the engine and see if it is rebuildable, but the ID mechanic criticized the last rebuild, so the whole engine might be questionable anyhow. I do believe my carb, starter, generator, power steering are salvageable, but that isn't much!
Oh, well. I was happy for 900 miles! ran like a top... for a while at least.
