Hello FMC'ers. I'm new to the thread and putting all my cards on the table, right now FMC ownership is a daydream. My hope is to one day have a cool FMC that will be retro on the outside (for me) and completely renovated on the inside (for my wife).
I figure I might be able to get a nice FMC that is mechanically sound and update the interior within a budget of about $30k (about the same money i would spend for a 15 year old starter motorhome/box on wheels).
Am I crazy or is this anywhere near feasible? Due to time constraints (and skill set restraints) I would probably have to hire out most of the work.

Welcome to the forum!

First, I would like to state that I believe that what you propose is entirely doable. The key question or unknown is just how much renovation of the inside will be done. Just reupholstering, new counter top and appliances or just what. If just reupholstering etc. then it can fit into your budget if you do some good shopping for where you will have the work done.

Second, to get a good look at both the outside and inside of many coaches with different insides, come visit the group that will be gathering at the Mega Rally outside of Carthage, MO July 10-14 this summer. Your wife may be happy with what she sees.

Third, what state and city are you in or near so that if leads are found they can be passed on to you. I know of a very nice unit that will be coming up for sale in California due to the owners health sometime in the coming year. The interior has been completely redone and is very nice.

Take care and stay in touch,

I am in the Tampa Bay Florida area. As for renovation, I think there would not be much needed in the way of changing the layout other than as large of a bed as I could fit in the back (full? queen?). Everything else would likely just be a refresh. Maybe new cabinets, carpet, etc.

I live in the Port Charlotte, Fla. Area. I have seen several good coaches for sale in Florida. I started with a coach straight out of a field. And have spent the last 3 years, completely rebuilding it. And have seen coaches for half the price I have in mine. But once you get hooked, you just can't let go. If I see anything I will be sure to forward it to you.
