i was taking out my fuel filter and noticed the 3/8 Dayco fuel hoses were all hard and brittle. These things snapped like pasta. The smaller hose coming off the other side was just as bad. So I'm a little skeptical about going back to the same brand. Is there a better quality hose?

Vincente; I am not aware of a preferred fuel line. What you describe is typical old age (very old) and definitely time for replacement. If you want the added security and peace of mind, braided hoses are available. Many sources.. http://www.jegs.com/c/Fittings-Hose/181705/10002/-1

Thanks for the link! The hose I pulled out is rated 300 psi. Isn't that over-kill for a carb engine?

Fuel injection hose is rated for higher pressures than carb rated hose. Fuel injection hose has more structure which in turn makes it stiffer. You may use a higher rated hose but not a lesser rated hose. Most important, the hose must match the fluid it contains and the environment it operates in. ie: The fuel hose inside a fuel tank is not the same as one outside the tank (different operating environments). The internal construction may be the same (same fluid) but the external is not.
