Location: Medford, OR | My factory linkage down rod is too short (I believe). When I first drove 850, it shifted to quickly for my liking from (1st,2nd,3rd), and it didn't automatically kick down from 3rd to 2nd. So I manually shifted it. I found that 850's kick down rod would hit the firewall under full acceleration. I was able to relieve/notch a metal bracket that was mounted to the firewall to allow for more rod movement, but at full length on the adjustment at the carb end, and at full throttle, the valve on the transmission still has more forward movement. My guess is I'm only getting about 3/4 of the total movement of that valve? I could lengthen the rod at the carburetor end, by about an inch and see it that would work, but it seems a lot of people on-line (reading Mopar threads) recommend installing the Lokar kick down cable instead if you have any issues with your current Mopar set-up. Mopar made so many different kick down linkage applications throughout the years, that it is common for people to have incorrect length linkages.
Bill (Mr. Mopar), Or any Mopar 727 guru, Should that pressure valve be open (all the way forward on the FMC) at full throttle? Has anyone installed the Lokar cable? Do you need to buy any additional brackets to adapt it to the Thermoquad? Summit carries the Lokar products, and it's not clear to me if you need to buy the "throttle cable bracket" part along with the kick down cable? Dan #850
