I moved mine 2” (to accommodate an overdrive transmission) without any problem (so far). Without making a frame change 2” is as far as you go. Any more (frame change) is going to start getting into universal joint angle problems. The 2” move, drilling new holes in the differential mounting bars, barely cleared the mount bar to frame bolts. Another quarter inch would have been an issue.
