Anyone have a couple used “turnable” brake drums they want to part with? I may also need some factory studs and a few lug nuts due to the tire shops wailing on the lugs in the past. I’m taking one of my drums into the shop this week, but I think they are out of spec. We’ll see...I’m just throwing out some feelers.

Thanks Lou, I’ll do my homework tomorrow searching the Fmc site for studs and shock part numbers. You don’t have any extra brake drums????

So I'll share my recent experience with locating and purchasing brand new brake drums. I was talking with Bill S on possibly refurbishing a couple used drums he had (thanks Bill), I found a sales rep at Durabrake on line and emailed them... AND found out they had 8 ea Durabrake 13174 is stock at there Sacramento CA warehouse that were left over from a large order in 2017 that were not purchased!!! I was sure this was to good to be true?? Well, I paid 350.00ea plus shipping to my front door. I went ahead and bought 4 because I knew my rear drums are also thin. Now for the kicker, the sales rep told me we can order any drum that they make, at any time, no minimum order count, and if they do not have it in stock already, they will make it, BUT it can take up to 12-14 weeks to receive it. So our brake drums aren't obsolete like I believed they were.... Oh, and you get a discounted price if you order a pallet of 20ea. So anyone needing a brake drum in the future SHOULD'NT need to sweat, other than pulling out the wallet and possibly waiting a winter for them to arrive. As of today 7/17/2018, they should still have 4 drums on the shelf, mine are being delivered tomorrow UPS ground. Now to get a hold of Centric and see about some brake shoes....yeah right.....

DK, you lead a charmed life. Glad you got 4 NEW DRUMS.
But, but, but . . . my 2 NEW DRUMS from the same "batch" were NOT BALANCED. Please let us know if your new ones are. I've never seen a piece of rotating CAST IRON that BIG that didn't need balancing. So far, I haven't found anyone in the Phoenix area that balances DRUMS.
Yes . . . the kicker . . . "sales rep said . . . " Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha !!!

Is the $350.00/ea. the same for you Lou? I'm sorry but I don't see $350 brake drums as a win, can't you order them without the gold plating?

My drums arrived, no weights. I emailed Durabrake and asked them about balancing. Their response from the Engineering dept was "Durabrake has never balanced this particular drum". "We sold 24 pieces last year alone, and haven't had any complaints"....

Ask him how many of that particular part number brake drum they (DuraBrake) have made/sold in the last 13 years.
ALL the same items made by Motor Wheel Corporation were balanced.
Wonder what magic process (spin casting ?) occurs in their OFF SHORE (Taiwan?) supplier that allows them to produce such a big casting with UNIFORM DENSITY ?
Ask him that if you have the drums balanced and they actually do require balancing . . . will they reimburse you for that balancing cost ?
Only other known application of that same 14-1/8 X 3-1/2 drum was the P-500 Ford Parcel Delivery with a dual wheel 14,000 pound rear axle, which is why they are so scarce.
