Had a weird experience charging the engine battery on #622 the other day.  When I hooked up the battery charger, even though the charger cables were hooked up correctly, the charger showed them to be reversed.  After taking the positive and negative cables off of the engine battery, and re-attaching the charger, all went well.

The battery ground cable is grounded to the chassis, and the positive cable is one of three connected to the starter.

Does anyone have an idea why this may be happening?

 Thanks for your ideas.

 Henry

Poor continuity in one of those cables could have confused the charger, you probably remedied it with reconnecting them. Also a bad battery isolator can give similar symptoms.

How do you test a battery isolater?

No easy way to test them. You typically jump around them to see if the symptoms are remedied.
