An FMC has become available to us at a price point we can easily swing. The issue is at the moment it is not driveable. It dropped its tranny heading to the shop. Owner wants to get away from it. So the bit thing is that I cannot drive it to test it. A bit of a leap of faith.

I have gone over it pretty thoroughly, the interior is very straight, it seems well taken care of. That said, I think it sat for a while prior to being moved to a repair shop. I have a slew of questions, in no particular order?

I have restored a number of cars. All of them in the 60's and above years and never had any parts issues. What I worry about is not so much parts but the rubber... I worry that I won't be able to find seals and stuff for the machine.

Also, there is nothing special about the Transmission, right? Just a 727 TF and a normal shaft (not a shortened shaft). Also the exhaust manifold is broken, again I assume that is a stock item from chrysler. (not sure how the manifold became broken) I worry about steering and suspension parts a lot, especially if this has been just sitting for a while.

Anyway, any additional advice for things to look at?

We have a steep gravel driveway, before I buy this is there any chance that it won't make it up the hill? We get UPS up there but unsure if there is traction issues with the machine.

You are in luck! You are about 3 hours from the rally we are having this weekend. See the particulars in the Rally section of this site. There will be 8 FMC coaches and 10 owners that will answer question for you. Come Saturday if possible.

If you really want an FMC exposure up close and personal, then you need to come to the rally this weekend. Most people only get to see one of these, the one they buy.

I think I need to rephrase that??....A lot of people only see the one FMC they purchase?? Whatever...... It's cool to be around a handful of them. I'm originally from Vancouver/Camas/Hockinson.

Yeah. It is. We have had a long conversation (The wife and I). We are in the midst of three construction projects, on top of work. We are going to regretfully pass on purchasing this because we do not have the time to deal with it. Its a bummer because we have been in the market for an FMC project for a while but we just don't realistically have the time for the next year or so. Deep down I think this is a very solid deal (we basically took off the price of the repairs from his asking price if anyone is interested). The interior is super clean for its age, and if someone has the time it will be one heck of a showpiece.

So the seller offered us the #86 for a really great price so we bought it. Delivered this evening via tow truck.
