If any of you decide to dip your toes into a Duramax swap this C4500/5500 Kodiak configuration would be the one to look for, it already has the heavy duty parking brake on the Allison trans, has dual alternators, and has a conservative tune designed for lots of miles with high reliability. I probably wouldn't consider one from the Midwest because of the rust but this is the style that would make for the lowest cost/labor requirement for a swap. |

Location: Oceanside, CA | Agreed, 2006-2008 Kodiak would be the best donors to also get the six speed. But an 04/05(injectors improved over the earlier engines) that can be had for a good price shouldn't be a deal breaker. I find that when I'm towing (which is most of the time) I'm in tow haul mode and rarely going fast enough to get in 6th gear. The other nice thing about the Kodiak configured engines is that they come with the larger turbo down pipe and the dipsticks are all much extended which works well in the FMC engine bay. |

Location: Oceanside, CA | And an additional advantage of these are the fact that the are pre-wired and tuned for Exhaust/turbo braking..
