Moving the differential forward to gain room for longer eng/trans transplant is going to be limited to 2” from what I found moving mine in #902. I moved mine 2” (to accommodate an overdrive transmission) without any problem (so far). Without making a frame change 2” is as far as you go. Any more (frame change) is going to start getting into universal joint angle problems.
The 2” move, drilling new holes in the differential mounting bars, barely cleared the mount bar to frame bolts. Another quarter inch would have been an issue.

I bet that was a big job...I was glad the duramax/allison fit in the existing space.
