I plan to install a new camshaft in #902. Most torque cams for the 440 seem to run around .420" valve lift with a duration of 204 degrees. These are the small end of camshafts.
The stock cam for the dodge truck 413 is Hydraulic int & exh valve lift .360" all durations measured ot .050" int 193 exh 194 degrees duration int lobe center 106 exh 110 degrees.
This is the smallest lift cam I have ever seen. I expect to get improved bottom end power and increased fuel economy. When I install the cam I plan on switching to a factory chrysler 2 bbl intake manifold from a 1959-1960 383 cu.in. engine. This engine was built on the 3.75" stroke RB style not the 3.38" B style engine. This is the only years a 383 intake will fit a 440. The casting # is 1851899 and date is 6-12-9. I will use a holley model 2245 carb from a chrysler 400 cu.in. engine. I live at over 6,500' elevation and should know right off the bat how the 2 bbl carb feeds the 440.
I should also note the cam I am using is for a 63-71 dodge truck 413 and uses a gear to gear cam drive(will not vary the valve or ignition timing for ever). This will drive the cam in the opposite rotation. A special distributer drive gear and a thrust collar that fits under the distributer is used to make it all work. In 72 they switched to a timing chain but the cam specs seem to be the same. This cam would be an easy swap if it performs well. I should know by Nebraska, Hope to tell you all about it then. Word is I won't be the only one trying out this cam for the trip to Minden for the Mega rally.
