Regular ![]() ![]() Location: Opelika, Alabama | Recommendations for exhaust as I tried to take Wife for first ride and She hated the exhaust smell! This 440 has stock manifolds hooked up to a dual system exiting on the Drivers side, it looks as though a large muffler and tailpipe goes in the middle rear,Long gone. Next problem; City water leaks all over! Tried to fill tanks up front and am not sure if they leak yet, however waterpump runs continuasly, kinda like it needs to be primed. I imagine some of You are having a good laugh at these problems, I only ask questions to avoid doing wrong fixes! Thanks Gary in Alabama

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() Location: Cottage Grove, OR | My thought is that you should not be smelling the exhaust inside the coach. You may have engine compartment to bedroom leak. I did! The problem with mine was that the seal between the top of the engine compartment and the side walls was gone so engine compartment smells would leak up into the bedroom. My wife didn't like that either. To cure that you can very carefully go around the edge of the engine compartment and seal it with foam. You also need to pull the top deck above the rear AC unit and the rear heater and ensure the the fire wall penetrations for the AC line and the coolant for the heater are well sealed. That eliminated rear bedroom smells in my case. Many coaches have the exhaust system that you describe. The original large muffler that sat alongside the engine was a heat source. Many, but not all, have been removed and replaced with what you have. If city water leaks, you need to just get under the cabinet and find the source of the leak and replace that section of plumbing. Most of the water pumps will pump air as well as water so they don't need to be primed. Do you get air out of a faucet with it running? If not, then you probably have a pump problem. If you fill the tanks up front to the point that they overflow (there is an overflow outlet inside of the right, front wheel) and the pump will not pump water pull the pump and rebuild it or replace it. You will also then find out if either of your two fresh water tanks leak. If either tank leaks, there is a drain valve that is accessible from under the coach. I believe you said your coach is a J model, if so, one water tank is under the front passenger seat and the other one is under the couch. They are tied to gether so when you fill one, you are also filling the other one. When those tanks are full, the water level is higher than the water pump. Hope this helps,
