Location: Bethune, SC | Are heat shields really necessary if ceramic plug boots and/or the fabric wire protectors are used? I have a set I am going to install, but no heat shields. Do I need to fabricate some shields?

Location: Medford, OR | I have the ceramic 90* plug ends and heat sleeves you mention Henry. No heat shields either. With proper spark plug wire routing and securing, we will be just fine. I need to pick up a single 12" or so length of heat wrap for one of my power steering lines, the return line is only a couple/few inches away from the manifold. |

From what I have seen if a plug wire has burned and contact with the manifold is not the reason the manifold gasket has burned out and that is the cause of the burned plug boot. Ran #902 with the turbo-440 with lots of heat and never burned a wire with the stock style manifolds. When the manifold gasket lets loose it is like a blowtorch on the plug wire boots.
