I was contacted by a member about what company I could recommed for insurance as that member was advised by his historic carrier, Alstate, that they would not cover it for more than $10,000.  I only cover my coach for liability so I have no experience with coverage that would include my own coach.

What companies do you recommed and do any of you have "defined value" policies and if you do, with what companies and at what value for the coach?

Thank you,

Wonder if it is time to talk to specialty insurance providers... Hagerty, JC Taylor and such... These are "collectible" and over 30 years old... Seems they qualify as special interest vehicles..... After all, we take them out on special occasions, to special "gatherings" ---- Seems that meets the criteria -------- Maybe?

Bottom line is, you need to ask your provider if they offer an "Agreed Value Policy" --- This is where you place a number on it, they AGREE to that number and you pay the premium they apply..... NOW-- This works FINE until something happens that is NOT YOUR FAULT and another insurance company has to pay a claim.. In this case, which can vary state to sate, the other insurance company decided what they will pay... PERIOD... Now YOU have to fight for the number that is what YOU need to make you whole again..... And that is---- Get An Appraisal... BY A qualified appraiser that knows the coach and the market..... AND will be available to represent you in any arbitration that could come up... There is plenty more to say about this... But I will just hold off at this point and see what discussion I may have started...

I have agreed value on 0890 with Progressive and an appraisal by Leslie 4 years ago. Rod brings out a good point if another insurance co is involved, had not considered that. I am currently working through insurance issues on our 2012 Kia Sorento SX V6, it was t-boned by a student at the local college. She was an unlisted driver (same address) in her grandmothers car. Getting it repaired under my collision for now. More gray hair. I have American Collectors Insurance with agreed value on my 1971 Malibu, currently restricted to 2500 miles a year. I have not talked to them about my coach.... http://www.americancollectors.com/Collector-Vehicles/15/ ds

I am going to check with my insurance company (State Farm) to see what they are doing. I get offers from Good Sam all the time where they claim to cover full replacement. I had an occasion to make a claim against Progressive last year and they simply refused to pay on behalf of their client, despite clear proof that their client was in the wrong. Took my insurance company taking them on. Luckily, State Farm pays me first and deals with the other guys later. So, in addition to checking your insurance carrier's coverage, it would seem to be important that they are willing to step in as required too. For the record, I pay about $300/year for the FMC with $100/deductible for comp and $250 deductible for collision. The other coverages are typical, not high.
