Subject: New Slick Awning for the FMC---

(67.142.172.27)		We have wanted an awning on the FMC for years but just did not want the problems that the old style awnings bring. They are poor in design (to say the least---) for many reasons.

First, there is the worst of it all---according to our insurance agent friend, awnings account for 70% of the claims motorhome owners make---whether from wind damage while sitting still or more commonly seen---an awning that opens while the coach is moving. Our Agent friend says this results in lots of damage to both the coach and others on the road and is the more common claim.

Then there is the unsightliness of the box and/or tootsie roll and arms that hang all over the side (which I thought) detracted greatly for an otherwise good looking and sleek machine.

Then there is the final flaw of the old design of awnings---the whole idea of an awing is to expand your living area of the coach for both the sunny days and the rainy ones. Nice days are not the problem. When it rains, you couldn't have an awing covering your doorway as it would either not allow the door to open as it had to be mounted so low or in a rearward of the door mounted scenario, your door and entryway would get soaking wet.

They are not cheap (around $1000 or more for a 8 1/2 foot wide x 10 foot long) and this Italian brand USA group here are difficult to deal with. On the other hand----if you are interested in one for your machine---I can help and personally know the distributor for the FMC. Me! I wanted to see if this would generate any interest since we do belong to numerous motorhoming groups.

Our awning is 11 foot as we wanted a balance appearance to the straight flat space hump over the door and were unsure of the mounting if hung towards the rear more but now I see that it should have been a 16 footer as the mounting was not an issue at all.

Here is the pictures of our top mounted, easy to set up (pictures enclosed) no ugly arms, safe set up of the Fiamma Awning.

(209.165.198.105)		Gotta see it in person first. But, is sure looks promising. Right now we use an easy-up. Price is right! I don't want to ruin the lines of the FMC, so this Fiama looks interesting. Although, I like being able to put our shade anywhere in the campsite, and with two kids, the easy-up goes up and down in about a minute. The problem is, of course, storage. We store it in our toad when towing. But, for solo flights, or just for convenience, this looks like a good solution.

Fiamma is the most common awning on caravans and motorhomes over here.
There is also the Fiamma Zip that comes with zippers for attaching side walls to make a very nice tent.

I'm looking to buy a used Fiamma zip with damaged fabrics and then have it redone in new fabrics matching the colors on #477.
