My FMC is powered by a 460 Ford, it has a California Air Board sticker that is dated 1974 so I assume that it came that way from the factory. It is a Transit with the entry door next to the right front wheel and a 545 Allison transmission. Does anyone know about this combination?? Thanks Larry!!

Interesting! It was always my understanding that they were all 440 powered, but I also now understand that the transits for Portland, OR had a GM diesels in them. Now this!

I see that you have Coach 552. If you call Jim Black at RVS in Morgan Hill he may be able to tell you who was the original puchaser and whether or not Ford 460's got put in any of them at the factory. He worked for FMC while the coaches were being built. 1-800-821-2266

One has to remember that if a customer was willing to pay for it, just about anything could be done within the confines of the basic body and frame. It is possible that one of the transit buyers (e.g. multiple units) specified the Ford engine as they may have had an all Ford fleet in their other general use vehicles and wanted them the same and FMC said "Sure, we can do that!".

Let us know what if anything you eventually find out.

Also, welcome to FMC ownership and membership in the FMC Owners Club. I look forward to seeing your coach at the Mega Rally in Cathage, MO next July. I expect others will also be interested in seeing how the conversion was done to your coach in addition to the Ford motor.

See you there,

Thanks for the reply on my post. I would like to know more about my coach, Mr. Black said that RVS did not put the interior in mine. I will contact him again for info about the factory build, since this is a transit I wonder if it was a Hertz coach. They were aligned with Ford in the 70's. Sorry this took so long to reply I've been busy getting ready for winter, I hate the cold!! I am planning to attend the rally in Carthage, Mo. in July. Thanks Larry
