Well, it’s time to check out a new movie when it is released.  The movie is First Dog and it will contain a scene that includes an FMC that is being driven by a young boy and it overturns and bursts into flames. Now how do I know about it.  Well I was at RVS yesterday and Jim and Jackie told me all about it as it the RV scenes were filmed at or in front of RVS just before Christmas.  These were all night scenes.  The interior shots were taken by blacking out the windows so it would seem like night and then having several local high school kids jumping up and down on the rear bumper to simulate driving motion.

For the overturned coach scene, a coach that RVS is parting out was towed to the parking area in front of RVS and then turned on its side by the tow truck. All of the windows had been removed to prevent damage to them.  The interior of the coach was then set on “fire” in a very realistic manner.  They had problems with cars that were driving by on the highway stopping because of the “fire”.  Only it was a fake fire done with some kind of chemicals and didn’t damage the coach.  Jim says it looked very realistic and he doesn’t know how they did it. After the filming of the “burned” coach was done, the coach was righted and towed back into the yard.  I took a picture of it and it is fine.  I have reserved a couple of parts from it.  Just black plastic in place of windows.  I posted the pictures I took in the photo album section.  Just have to watch the movie to see it “burning” I guess.  Their son, Mark, also drove a coach past the shop while it was filmed going by.

Jim said that it was a mad house as about a hundred people were there with all of the support staff, food truck, etc. and also a class from the local high school that is studying film making.  Some of the local kids were used as extras.  A scene or two was also shot in neighboring Gilroy.  The story is about the U.S. President’s dog that is left behind after a dedication ceremony and  is found by a young boy.  He tries to tell everyone that it is the missing dog, but no one believes him so he runs away from his foster home to take the dog back to the President.  The movie is about the trip.

Here is a link to the web site for the movie.

Most of the scenes had been filmed by the time the RVS scenes were shot so the film will probably be released some time this summer or fall (assuming it gets released!).  There will be a showing of the film in Morgan Hill just prior to its being released.

It is time for an update as the movie was released a couple of years ago and is now available on Amazon. The reviews are generally very positive and it is recommended as a great movie for children. I am ordering a copy for my archives and my grandchildren. A link to the movie's website is in the above post and a link to where you can purchase it from Amazon follows.

The coach that was used was 261 and that has been noted in the Coach Database of this site.

Stephen;

I ordered this movie from Amazon, got it the day they let school out for all the snow (2.5 inches) in metro Atlanta. Watched it with Roy. Good story and he really enjoyed it. Hate to see them do that to a FMC though. Thanks for the info.. Roy will probably thank you in person in July... Still iced in here, no school tomorrow, second day.. some cabin fever.. However he is getting quite good at doing donuts on the ice and snow with his ATV. We have lots of new trails...Denny
