hello family, I'm doing a personal research to find out who has gotten the
best gas mileage from our FMC's, with carburator and with Fuel injection
and with what type of fuel injection ?
towing, not towing, flat land, Colordo, with A/C on, etc.

The most that i got was 8.0 with an Edelbrock MPI fuel injection system. Overall mileage with that system was about 7.0 mpg with all types of driving combined. Here in the West it is hard to burn a full tank on flat ground as we have too many mountains so that is why it is mixed types of driving. Towing a Subaru Brat, it got about 6.5 mpg the one trip that it was towed. With the carb before the injection system i got about 6.5 mpg overall.

While the injection system only increased fuel mileage about 10%, it did significantly improve starting characteristics and mid-rpm torque at elevation.

I run the stock 440 eidlebrock. I've been known to get as little as 6 MPG crossing Nebraska. I am in Colorado Springs and get about 4 going up the pass and 10+ coming down ;-)

This summer I upgraded a burned coil, new plugs and got a solid 8 MPG again, which was very good news.

Just put in a new Edelbrock Thunder AVS 650 before my last megatrip. It replaced the stock POS carb on the 440. Starting is much, much better. Gas mileage is better too, although not by much. I would say a good .25 to .5 mpg better. But, by percentage, that is significant. I am now getting about 6 to 6.5 towing and about 7 not towing. In all cases, this is in the West or similar types of driving. Flatlanders might do better.

When I had the 440 in my coach the best I could get was 8 mpg. I tried several tanks of 93 octane fuel, never helped the mileage but it did run better. One time in the hills of Massechusets the mileage went to 4.5, ouch. Frank
