Lou Cruse is a proponet, but has yet to road test the concept in his FMC.  Barney Martin tried it and posted his results (negative), but I have been unable to locate his posting.

If you have cooling issues with as designed you will probably have issues with this. A good flowing copper/brass or aluminum radiator and regular flushing and cleaning is recommended. It is amazing how much crud can accumulate on the cooling fins. Removal of the ladder and finned cover is required to clean it properly. I use Purple Power in a garden sprayer (spray both sides). Use a lot of hot water (hose) and run the engine when spraying and rinsing to get the fan splatter effect. Lots of dirt/oil/grime and lots of bubbles. Average 5000 miles a year and generally clean the radiator twice, one minor and one major. Easily drops temp from 185-190 to 180. Pictures of the changeover to the F250 radiator are in the albums section. Since the radiator is fairly new, I just change coolant every other year. This coach has a Detroit, a somewhat messy engine. I keep a drip pan under a picture of it.

Yes---there was one nutjob crazy enough to try to reverse the airflow---and he lives in northern Michigan---up where the air is thin and the water is golden and bubbly. Oh---that is the beer I guess----;-)

Anyway, I have shipped the reverse fan out to the next crazy guy I know---our fearless leader Bill Sitton---as he said he would take it--

My results were all conducted on a hot summer day 2 years ago going 25 miles at 70 mph on the freeway to the next outpost near our cabin and back. The actual engine temp was not significantly changed compared to the pusher fan (both were of the same pitch and diameter --just opposite hands---) ---let us say it was within 5 degrees of each other. The real noticeable change was the bedroom went up 50 degrees and the doors to the engine compartment were too hot to even touch for a second!!!!!

Bottom line---get a light weight plastic (4 pounds lighter than that bearing killing, power robbing steel monstrosity the FMC came with----)non flex fan for a heavy duty truck from Flex-a-lite Consolidated (now CFM consolidated--)---a HD PSH steel 8319. I bought mine directly from the company and in 2010---it was $49 with the shipping---800-851-1510

This is a great replacement fan as it has a little more pitch and fits the shroud to our existing radiator. If you would only go to a stock mopar water pump and move your Ford f250 single core radiator closer to the motor---you will feel the difference in the power you will have ---especially if you eliminate all those belts, idlers (get a single pulley, single wire delco alternator---and mount it in line with your new single belt water pump pulley---) and other stuff that is totally unnecessary to run this machine----;-)

Now I have to get back installing the heated floors in ours so our little feet stay warm---;-)

More on that and it's outcome later----

we don't have an overheating problem with our FMC 397, not even on Houston Texas
heat, but I was wondering if anybody had tried that before, Thanks for the input,
now who is using the Flex Fan now ? any problems ? 19" inch ?
