Over the holidays I replaced all of the steering components from the rag joint to the ball joints. It was quite a job but now I've decided to install the Timbren Rubber Spring.
I ordered the more stiff spring as Lou suggests from Summit racing (they now have it on their online catalog). Since RVS does not sell the spring or the plates looks like I'm creating me own. Lou's write up is going to be very useful but it would really save time if I had the measurements of the pates used. So does anyone have the measurements of the plates?
Thanks Jon #94

If memory serves (and that's a stretch...believe me) #509 had the Timbren thing. Dale Maggio would remember for sure.
Here's the present owners (Najib Maher) email - najibmaher93@hotmail.com - but he's hard to get a hold of; lives in a remote area with limited connectivity.

He is a great guy and if #509 does have them, he'd likely get you the info quick. Worth a try maybe.

Best I can do right now I'm afraid, don't have his phone # any more as it disappeared a while back with everything else when I 'wiped' (out) my computer.

Good luck with this.

There is a new version of this Timbre spring that may work better. I just had Big Moe's in Atlanta install, a Timbre distributor, install a set on my FMC. I will get you the part number today. It is made up of two smaller doughnuts with the same combined weight capacity. Big Moe's called Timbren and they suggested this. I will get you the part number and plate dimensions tonight.

The kit for the Timbren Spring Kit is DR 2500 2L. The spring alone is AEON A00550-65F60 of which you will need two. My FMC has 22.5 rims and the single doughnut would not fit no matter how far in the mounting hole was drilled.

To get the single doughnut to work, you may have to cut it as was the original kit. The plate is cut from a piece of 1/4" inch plate 4" wide by 5 1/2" long. You will also need a 2" piece of 1/2" key stock for each plate. You then mark a point 3 3/8" up one edge of the plate and 2" or the middle of the closest end of the plate. You then cut the diagonal between these points.

Remember that you are making mirror images when you are welding on the key stock.

Here is an analysis of the Timbren rubber spring assists. It appears that any of these may work, but the best may be the A550-75 or the A103B-75.

I could not get the pictures to post -- go to the Yahoo FMC group.
