Anyone have experience replacing rear window? Ours has cracking throughout what appears to be an inner pane of a "sandwiched" doublepane. Can these be made to order from glass shop?

The molding is not currently available to anyone's knowledge, but the glass can be ordered from any local auto glass shop. Yours being an early coach may have safety glass with the inner layer. It can be replaced by the tempered safety glass that goes into a million small pieces when it breaks. Since it is flat glass, most glass shops can order the tempered glass after a template is made by either them or yourself. You will need to reuse the existing molding.

I was a parts and service manager for a John Deere dealer for many years. The moldings look very similar to those used in many of the Industrial, Agricultural and Forestry operators cab glass installations. Not sure when I will get around to this, but a lot of larger Deere Dealers have bulk rolls in stock. Might be worth a trip if anyone has local machinery dealers to pester. I would try any of those types of manufacturers(Ford, Case, New Holland etc.). If your nice to the parts person, they may nip off an inch from each of their different styles for you to bring home. Thanks for confirmation on the glass. Is the thickness between safety and sandwiched glass typically similar or do they just order a replacement that matches thickness?

I believe that you can specify the thickness when ordering safety glass. Remember that the water seal seal is the black windshield sealing compound that is put between the glass and the frame and not the rubber molding for the back window.

I am still not clear on which window we are discussing. is it a rear side sliding window or the fixed window at the rear of the coach?

I interpreted the initial post as referring to the large window on the rear of the coach.

Congratulations on the ownership.

Rear window would be quite easy to get fixed. A glass shop should be able to cut or order a new glas to spec. And then installl it by using the old seal, or what might be left of that, and make it look just perfect with the right sealant. I think there are pictures of how this came out in one of my galleries on #477.

Resurrecting this thread due to a recently broken rear passenger slider. My gardener's weed whacker shot it out....

Just want to confirm that if I take her to an auto-glass shop, they can order a new piece of tinted, tempered glass to match and install it?

It is just flat glass, so you shouldn't have any problem.

Update: I have successfully replaced the glass. A local shop that does RV glass came out and used the glass from the opposite side of the coach as a template. He pulled out the felt to make room to tilt in the new glass, then pushed the felt back in under the glass to hold it in place. It looks like new, with the exception of the handle/lock. He used epoxy to attach it, not the original rivets. He did not want to risk breaking the new glass by drilling it.

Interesting about the latch originally being held by rivets. I never have seen that before on an FMC. I have only seen them held by epoxy or silicon.

Based on what I see on my coach (#621), I would say rivets are original. Out of 8 sliding windows, 6 of mine have the original glass with rivets. The 2 remaining windows have been replaced and do not have rivets. One I just replaced (pass rear), the other I have to assume was replaced as it is not riveted (driver door).

Here is the tempering logo on my driver's rear slider showing 1975 as the tempering date:

I checked each window to match up the tempering logo and the rivets. They all match up on the original glass.

I would sell the rear window from my unit. Mine is a long term resurrection project and I don't think I need that window for anything. Can't see enough out of it while in the drivers seat, so only value is when parked. I'm going to fiberglass the opening and use a rear view camera. That way, I can use that space for more dresser drawers. I haven't removed it yet, but all the hardware will go with it. The rubber is bad. Make offer if interested.

The window latches on my three coaches are glued on or should I say were glued on the glue has deteriorated with age and now most of the latches are laying on the counter

I was under the impression you could not drill tempered glass. Any drilling would have to happen prior to tempering? Any glass guys out there?
