Location: Santa Cruz, Calif.
Got to spend about 2 hrs with the 509 this eve. If anyone has any comments about the following items, it would be enlightening.
1. Made my first trip to the roof. Fairly solid. Bath vent doesn't open all the way due to hitting the condenser shroud. Normal design error?
2. Found remenants of crank-up antenna over bedroom. Didn't see output inside.
3. Condenser shroud is a major leaf collector. Any easy cleaning? Driving it back over the Hill didn't do it.
4. Bath plumbing vent cap busted. Need to replace it. Comes out of roof at an angle.
5. No major holes or breeches of the roof. Some sealer trailed over the rear.

Inside:
6. Rear A/C has outlets over right rear bed. Couldn't find front outlet. Does it share with dash air?
7. Genny cranked but wouldn't start.
8. Refer is Norcold DE828. No exterior controls. Appears to be AC/DC? No propane for boondocking?
9. None of the center dash read-outs appear to work. All dash controls are sticky or resistant, even headlights.
10. Looked under front pass seat in hopes of finding the resident rodent. Is that the converter?

       -Is your bathroom vent the original small round one or a 14x14? If the latter it was installed by a PO (Privious Owner) and not the factory.

2. Found remenants of crank-up antenna over bedroom. Didn't see output inside.

         -A crank up antenna would be a PO install. Start searching inside cabinets both front and rear.  Good luck!

3. Condenser shroud is a major leaf collector. Any easy cleaning? Driving it back over the Hill didn't do it.
         -I have a later coach that doesn't have shroud due to the condesers being relocated, but my advise would be to remove it, clean the area and then reattach with better non-rusted attachments before it blows off and gets crunched by a 18 wheeler.

4. Bath plumbing vent cap busted. Need to replace it. Comes out of roof at an angle. 
           -Easy fix

5. No major holes or breeches of the roof. Some sealer trailed over the rear. 
         -Clearance lights are a common water entry point.

Inside:
6. Rear A/C has outlets over right rear bed. Couldn't find front outlet. Does it share with dash air?
            -The outlet is high on the front wall of the closet. Do you still have two AC units? There is no connection between the house air and the dash or automotive air.

7. Genny cranked but wouldn't start.
            -Talk to the mechanics at Felton about most probable causes.

8. Refer is Norcold DE828. No exterior controls. Appears to be AC/DC? No propane for boondocking?
             -Original refer is AC/DC only.  Many were converted to AC/propane.  I converted mine back to just DC.  At Felton you will be able to see both and discuss advanteges and disadvantages of adding propane option.

9. None of the center dash read-outs appear to work. All dash controls are sticky or resistant, even headlights.
               -Situation normal for a non-used coach.  Discuss at Felton.

10. Looked under front pass seat in hopes of finding the resident rodent. Is that the converter?
                -Yes, the rodent is the converter.  Due to the changes in technology and to get long life from your house batteries I would strongly reccomend replacing it with a modern three stage converter.  I did and the batteries are happy and the rodent is much, much quieter.

 

Your quest has  just begun, but there is a lot of expertise and experience available from others to help you.  You are off to a good start by being willing to ask questions.  You may/will get confilicting reccomendations or advise, but then you get to make a choice and then proceed.  Hopefully some others will either concur with my comments or suggest other courses of action.  It's good either way.
