Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() Location: Santa Cruz, Calif. | Well, we got the original Onan genny running with a new Dinosaur Electronics board and new brushes. But we can't seem to pull enough fuel to keep it running. If I hook it up to an offboard gas can, it runs like a champ. But when hooked up to the gas tank pick-up, it just doesn't get fuel. It's not the prime, I've checked that. The rubber line looks pretty good where it goes into the firewall, so I'm guessing it's sucking air at the tank connection or the pickup tube is clogged. Either way, I need to get to the top of the tank, hopefully without dropping it. Can I get to it by removing the bed board on the driver's side? Or are there more layers under that?

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() Location: Cottage Grove, OR | My coach has an access hole via a removable square section of the bed board. The tank should be just under it. I expect that the access hole was added by a previous owner at a later date.

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() Location: Santa Cruz, Calif. | I can't remember who sent me the photos, I think it was Greg or Bill. I'm finally ready to lay it out and cut the hole. Big question is: how much depth do I have? Can I use a sabre saw or will I poke the top of the tank?

Veteran ![]() Location: Kingsley Michigan | If you have some small hands----there is no need to cut that hole---Just pull the rubber gasket from around the gas cap and you can see the fittings and the clearance you have---If things are in somewhat good shape----you can do the work from the outside---- Here is a top view ofthe tank and who is what ---the M stands for motor---the G is the Generator and the V is the vent that used to go to a cannister----- (Overall Tank View.jpg) (Fuel Lines with cap to the right--.jpg) Attachments ---------------- Overall Tank View.jpg (34KB - 26 downloads) Fuel Lines with cap to the right--.jpg (62KB - 42 downloads)

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() Location: Santa Cruz, Calif. | Barney - Thanks for the pic, it shows where the pickup should be. I peeled back the gasket around the filler, but the area is filled with urathane foam. I can't get to it from there. I did notice some of the screws holding down the bed board had been replaced. So I figured it must lift up.. I backed out all the screws and lifted the board. Here's what I found: Pic 2 - Under the board was R-13 fiberglass batting in a plastic sleeve. Peeling that back I find an aluminum plate. This is where I stopped. Once I discard the R-13, I will see if there is a way to lift the plate. Has anyone done this? The plate is curved down at the edges and appears to be anchored from below. The funny looking crinkle plastic is just that. It is over the areas that are the underbed cabinets. Alsomst as if they were going to light them someday. Pic 3 - The plate extends to the wheel well, but not past it. This is filled with urathane foam. Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() Location: Oslo Norway | Bair You can not "lift" that plate. That plate is attached under your floor and also attached to the firewall in the back. Take a look at the pictures from my stripped bedroom in the #477 gallery (Pages 5-6). From your pictures it looks all original but the sprayed foam in fron of the weel-well has been added laterI think. Kjetil #477

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() Location: Santa Cruz, Calif. | Thanks, Kjetil. So now I'm stuck with the quandry of how to get to those fittings. I'm not sure I can pick away the ureathane at the Gas filler door and get my huge hands in there enough to work it. Is my only other option to drop the tank? Edited by Bair 2010-07-29 8:13 PM
