New H1 b-joint on the left (AC DELCO 45D2222), old driver side upper on the right

old drivers side lower on the left, upper on the right; notice the difference in the upper casting shape

side profile difference of the new H1 compared to the old drivers upper

new H1 installed in the drivers upper position, You must increase the mounting bolts hole diameter from 3/8" to 7/16", it's also important to realize that while the pattern appears to be the same as the original it is slightly off and requires some rotary file clearancing/match drilling to get straight installs of the fasteners.

new H1 temp installed in the drivers lower position, hardware needs to be replaced; rotary file relief for grease zerk (changed to 45dg) required to allow the ball joint to fit up flush in the control arm opening.

New, longer 7/16"x14tpi socket head bolts (2 1/4" long)p/n 91251A678, I could have used 2" long. Also new reduced head size flange nuts p/n 90759A400 (easier to get a socket on in the tight area) These are high strength fasteners I purchased from McMaster Carr. You'll need these or equivalent to allow for the thickness of the lower control arm.

finish install of the new lower ball-joint, you can see that I could have gone with the 2" long fastener vs the 2 1/4"

Both installed and ready for reassembly. This is a commitment to convert to these lower cost, more available ball joints (approx $50 each) you won't be able to use the original configuration after this.

H1 upper ball joint installed/assembled.

H1 lower ball joint installed and assembled.

After seeing Stephen's rear hose reroute and hearing Terry's brake hose casualty I moved this job up on the priority list.

I needed to use 90dg fittings on the rear hoses to clear my air bag structure. After looking at the front hose routing it appeared they'd be helpful there as well. I went ahead and got the 7/16-24 female and 7/16-20 male inverted flare to -3AN adapters at the same time.
