Converting 669 to an oil burner.

I had some heat blanket left from another project so used it to wrap the muffler. Best to keep all the heat possible out of the engine compartment.


Here you can see the angles in place. Installing them should be a simple job if needed. A lot easier doing it now than later on the road.


I'm using an electronic operated fan clutch but am trying to look ahead to any issues with the fan not locking tight enough to cool the engine. I've modified the fan clutch mounting hub by adding some 5/16" grade 8 studs and will have 6 angle brackets which will lock the fan solid if needed


Here it is mounted. I was lazy and didn't want to pressure test again so I just slopped some JB Weld around the welds just to be sure there are no leaks.

Holley came out with a new universal (almost) fuel level sensor. It uses lidar to sense the fuel level without floats. Wish it was out before I modified the one I have. Simple 1" hole but tapping those 10-32 holes in a 3/8 plate is a bit dicey.


The new larger engine oil cooler required a bit of surgery of the frame for oil filter clearance. Hated to do it but its stronger now than it was before with all the strengthening.


The Allison trans has provisions to mount the dipstick on either side. Some of the mid duty trucks have a longer tube/stick that exits to the opposite side in a much better location for this swap. I did have to do a little massaging to get it to fit but its a lot better than the original trucks location,which was almost impossible in mine.

The oil fill has a handy telescoping feature to 'hopefully' help with the potential mess of adding oil.


Got the oil fill, main radiator surge tank, inter cooler radiator surge tank and dipstick all accessed through the OEM radiator fill port. Tight but nice to be able to reach everything standing outside. The dipstick was a bit of a challenge. I used speedometer cable (old school stuff) and was able to modify an old dipstick handle and the end of its tube. Getting the length just right took a bit of patience.


Here are the batteries, 206AH Lithium. Their size made it necessary to load them from the bottom. The door on top was just too small and more work to modify than dropping them down and out.


I had to modify the coach battery box to accommodate the batteries I'm using. I ended up adding about 2 1/2" to the depth and also made the bottom removable.


Looks like a hose farm. Tough to keep it neat and organized.
