#846 - Cummins Swap
Return to the album thumbnailsBack

Finally did an MPG calculation since the Cummins install.

90% of the miles were on the hwy averaging 65 miles per hour, with a good mix of steep hills as well as winding and flat stretches.

Fuel full; 80/US gal water = 16,000 GVW.
12V Cummins with 4" exhaust; 3000 rpm Governor spring kit; 60 lb exhaust spring kit; P7100 fuel pump slightly tweaked for performance and economy.

Distance travelled: 517 miles
Diesel fuel burned: 40/Imp gals = 48/US gal.

Improved from about 8/Imp mpg to 13/mpg.
In US/gals that would be about 6.5/US mpg (typical) to 10.8/mpg.

That's about a 65% improvement over my old 440'!

I'm happy with that and will look to improving on it going forward. ie. would likely have better economy if I was cruising closer to 60 mph. Eh.
